Dr. Christine Mitchell Joins FTP Board

Christine Mitchell, D.O. has joined Feeding the People 's Board of Directors. Dr. Mitchell practices medicine at the Portland Osteopathic Children’s Clinic in Portland, Maine. She is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed an undergraduate fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulation in 2003.

Her postgraduate medical training includes a residency in Family Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland as well as a one year fellowship in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM/OMM) in Bangor, Maine.

She is board certified in Family Medicine and in NMM/OMM, a faculty member with the Cranial Academy, and a member of the Andrew Still Sutherland Study Group.

Dr. Mitchell has been training in the Biodynamic model of cranial osteopathy since 1999.

Cindy Lop-Her to Appear at Goddess Gala

Charm City Roller Girl and former skater for home team, Speed Regime, and travel team, Charm City All Stars, Cindy Lop-her (aka, Tara Gebhardt) will join a panel of celebrity Goddesses to judge the Goddess Gala costume contest on September 11, 2010.

Cindy helped bring roller derby back to Baltimore in 2005 as a founding member and owner of the Charm City Roller Girls.

Cultivating roller derby in Baltimore and at a national level, Cindy has also worked on behalf of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) to align the sport with key sponsors that will help them reach their target demographic while also gaining greater recognition for the sport itself in the eye of the general public.

Cindy has also gained national attention for her blog, Big Derby Girls Don't Cry, which is geared at challenging the misconceptions of women and size (http://bigderbygirls.blogspot.com).

  • The Giggmohr Brothers, a talented group of musicians who play Rock, Blues, Rhythm & Blues and Originals, donated their time to perform at the Goddess Gala.

  • Ferenc Teddy Gregor created a stone sculpture for the silent auction. A first generation Hungarian-American residing in Maryland, Ferenc began carving in 1987, utilizing natural materials, such as wood, horn, fossil ivories, and stone.

  • Julie Huber, co-founder and creative director of Braeland Studios/Otis & Co., donated a piece of artwork for the silent auction.

  • Larry Lewis, a professional metalsmith and owner of Forms in Metal, created two sterling silver Hunab-Ku pendants - prizes for the costume contest winners.

  • Lyn Ostrov, an accomplished painter and art teacher at Friends School of Baltimore, donated one of her pieces entitled "Resting Under the Arbor" for the silent auction.

  • Anna Osztreicher, Program Coordinator for the Diabetes and Pregnancy Education and Management Program at Sinai Hospital and Feeding the People Board Member, donated a painting for the silent auction.

  • Glen Peak created a handcrafted hand drum with the Hunab-Ku symbol for the silent auction.

  • MyCity4Her.com, a Goddess Gala media sponsor, is an online resource which exists to help women in business save time and increase their chances for success.

  • Peak's Party Staffing Service coordinated catering and staffing for the Goddess Gala. Peak's provides the highest level of creative gourmet cuisine and gracious service.

  • Tim Prendergast has donated his photography services. Tim is a Baltimore-based freelance photographer specializing in model/actor portfolios, wedding/corporate events, products and portraiture.

  • Red Canoe Bookstore & Cafe donated a gift card. Their mission, to build community through the power of literacy, has expanded over the last few years to include nourishment of the body as well as the mind.

LaDawn Black will participate in Feeding the People's Goddess Gala as a celebrity judge for the costume contest. We are very excited to have her as one of our Celebrity Goddesses.

Lions Club Donates $500 to FTP

We would like to thank the Freedom District Lions Club for donating $500 to Feeding the People and for inviting Jennifer to speak at their May 26th meeting.

The Freedom District Lions Club focuses on service to the community surrounding Sykesville and Eldersburg in Carroll County, Maryland. Members of the Freedom District Lions club are part of the worlds largest service organization which includes over 1.3 million members in over 44,000 clubs from over 200 countries and geographic areas.

Anna Osztreicher Joins Feeding the People Board

Last Thursday Anna Osztreicher, CRNP was elected to Feeding the People's Board of Directors. Mrs. Osztreicher has served as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner, Diabetes Educator, and Program Coordinator for the Diabetes and Pregnancy Education and Management Program of the Department of OB/GYN at Lifebridge Health - Sinai Hospital since 2001. She pioneered the work of this program, which is officially recognized by the American Diabetes Association.

Prior to this position Mrs. Osztreicher served as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner at Clinical Associates from 1997-1998 and as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Clinic Director for the Western Center for Women’s Health Care in the Department of OB/GYN at University of Maryland at Baltimore from 1987-1997.

Mrs. Osztreicher served as President of the Maryland Association of Diabetes Educators from 2006-2007 and as Baltimore District Director of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland from 2001-2002.

Eustache and James LLP and MVLS Support Feeding the People

Eustache and James LLP, The Capital Health Law Group, has offered to provide pro-bono legal services for Feeding the People. The firm specializes in helping healthcare providers such as physicians, pharmacists, dentists, psychologists, and healthcare sales professionals with all their legal and business concerns.

Feeding the People was connected with Eustache and James by Richard Reitzel Chambers, Director of Community Development and Taxpayer Programs for the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service. MVLS is a nonprofit organization that provides free (and in some cases low cost) legal representation to Marylanders with limited income. MVLS also provides free legal help for community-based nonprofits that are working to strengthen low-income communities in Maryland.
