Feeding the People Provides Over 1,300 Meals

Since September 2011 Feeding the People has provided over 1,300 diabetic-appropriate meals to people living with diabetes.

Generous donations from individuals; grants from foundations and corporations such as The Abell Foundation, Novo Nordisk, and BD Diagnostics; and our partnership with Moveable Feast have allowed us to provide meals for $1.00 a meal.

Clients can order up to 21 meals a week and may pay using their Independence Cards.

The Abell Foundation Awards Feeding the People Grant of $5,000

We would like to thank The Abell Foundation for awarding Feeding the People a generous grant of $5,000 to provide low-income diabetics with meals, education, and support. This grant will allow us to serve all of our current clients through July 2012.

The Abell Foundation is a local foundation dedicated to the enhancement of the quality of life in Baltimore and Maryland.

Yin-Yang Ball Uplifts!

Last night's Yin-Yang Ball at Irvine Nature Center uplifted the hearts and spirits of nearly 100 people.

Mara Neimanis, artistic director for In-Flight Theater, kicked off the evening with an excerpt from her new solo show, Flights of Family, which will premiere at The Creative Alliance in February. The show is about family, diabetes and care giving.

Mara's strength, grace and impassioned monologue touched our hearts and made us laugh. Mara creates theater in the air using trapeze and invented aerial apparatus that include floating and suspended steel sculptures.

Interdisciplinary playwright, multimedia humorist, activist, and poet Robert Karimi (aka Mero Cocinero Karimi) took us on a sensory stroll down memory lane with mint leaves. Everyone was encouraged to rub and smell their mint leaves and then talk about the memories they induced.

Throughout the evening we had the opportunity to "Make Miracles" with the "Revolutionary Chef" by grinding corn and cooking our own tortillas. Find out more about Karimi's three week residency at The Contemporary Museum by visiting: http://contemporary.org/exhibitions.html

The Giggmohr Brothers got everyone moving with their eclectic blend of Blues, Rhythm and Blues, 60's Rock, and Country. After their energizing set, DJ Johnny Street kept everyone shaking their booties.

Between the silent auction featuring the work of local artists; seated massages by Cynthia Vice and Lanh Mos, and the delicious Mexican Food by Papa Joe's of Westminster; there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Baltimore Ravens Support Yin-Yang Ball

We would like to thank the Baltimore Ravens ACT Foundation for donating merchandise to be auctioned off at Feeding the People's Yin-Yang Ball on September 24, 2011.

The Baltimore Ravens All Community Team Foundation serves as a separate non-profit entity of the team's community outreach efforts. In addition to Ravens appearances and in-kind donations, the foundation provides support to Baltimore area non-profit organizations. Ravens players are also active in the community through individual foundations of their own.

Feeding the People Awarded Grant from Novo Nordisk

Feeding the People has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Novo Nordisk Inc., a world leader in diabetes care. The grant will help support Feeding the People’s Yin-Yang Ball, a fundraising event to empower low-income diabetics with meals, education, and support.

“We are very grateful for Novo Nordisk’s support, which will allow us serve additional clients. By providing low-income diabetics with nutritious meals, education, and ongoing support we can help prevent diabetes-related complications and save lives,” said Jennifer Schugam, President, Feeding the People.

Feeding the People’s Yin-Yang Ball will be held on September 24, 2011 from 7:00pm – 11:00pm at Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills, Maryland. Attendees will enjoy live music, dancing, Mexican food, hay rides, a silent auction, a piñata contest, and more. All proceeds will benefit Feeding the People.
